VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL
2024 ANNUAL MEETING
The annual congregational meeting was held on Sunday, August 25, after the worship service.
The meeting was well attended with church members and visitors present.
The terms of Kathy Speck and Tracy Paquin expired this year and Tracy chose to not serve another term. The congregation unanimously approved the slate of Kathy Speck and Rob Kern.
The proposed budget was approved and the moderator’s report included two events that will probably become annual events: a church-sponsored welcome dinner for the young people from foreign countries that come to the Island to work for the summer, and a late-summer community potluck similar to the 60th anniversary potluck we had last summer.
Also mentioned was the technology proposal for recording church services to be posted on internet sites such as YouTube, and for providing audience participation in meetings like this annual meeting.
More information on that later as discussions continue.
The 2023 annual business meeting for Beaver Island Christian Church was held on Sunday, August 27.
The annual business meeting of Beaver Island Christian Church was held on Sunday, August 27, following the morning worship service.
In addition to the usual agenda items: minutes, financial reports, proposed budget, moderator’s report, determination of financial institution(s), there was the election of board members.
There were three names on the ballot. Two positions were open due to board members Bev Vicstein and Greg Lawson retiring, and one position was open as the result of a resignation.
Therefore, all three candidates: Joe Callian, Susan Hawkins, and Lonnie Allen will be the new board members.
BEAVER ISLAND CHRISTIAN CHURCH ENDOWMENT FUND
In accordance with the vote of the church membership at the annual meeting of August 2017, Beaver Island Christian Church has created an endowment fund at the Charlevoix County Community Foundation to provide financial support of our mission for the long-term.
The Community Foundation provides professional investment management and administration of the Fund, and each year the income from the Fund provides another source of funding for our church.
The Fund provides options for donors, who may:
- Support long-term financial health by giving to Beaver Island Christian Church Endowment Fund, or
- in support of Church operations by giving to the Beaver Island Christian Church Grant-Making Fund, or
- both
The endowment fund also presents an excellent option for donors who wish to make estate gifts.
