Pastor Mark Bonham
Mark earned a B.S. degree in Business Management from CMU, a M.A. degree in Education from the University of Connecticut, did graduate studies in Theology at Wheaton College and is an ordained minister with the North American Baptist Church (NAB). He served on the editorial board of Christianity Today’s Small Group Resources magazine, where he has had several articles published.
Mark and his wife Mary led campus ministry at WMU, Hope College and GVSU with the Navigators for eight years.
For 14 years Mark served as ministry director in Hungary and Romania as part of the Navigator Eastern European team. While there, he was also chairman of Habitat for Humanity Hungary, working alongside President Jimmy Carter and building 21 homes – the most productive Habitat in Europe at that time. He was the first American to serve on the Budapest Chamber of Commerce and Industry since its inception in 1895. He helped to establish the Salt and Light Foundation in Hungary and continues to serve as an honorary board member.
Upon returning from Hungary in 1997 Mark and Mary served 3 years on the Navigator Kalamazoo and Detroit Metro Ministry leadership team, which focused on ministry among Spanish speaking immigrants, Muslim immigrants, ministry in the marketplace, church discipleship and opening a campus ministry at Wayne State University.
Mary has served as Director of Soul Care at Centerpoint Church in Kalamazoo, while Mark served as the Executive Director of Open Hearts Ministry from 2000-2010, training small group facilitators for Journey Groups from 49 states and 30 countries, in 140 ministry locations.
Mark founded and has directed Shepherd’s Heart since 2011. He is the author of “Loving Well – Building a Marriage that Lasts”. Shepherd’s Heart has trained facilitators in 8 countries to strengthen marriages. Mark has an ongoing pastoral counseling ministry. Mark and Mary’s experience in working with individuals, couples, families and groups has given them a unique perspective on emotional, relational and spiritual health.
Mark and Mary have two married children and six grandchildren. They are members and serve in various leadership roles at Voyage Church (RCA) in Kalamazoo, MI.
